As a band, Anathemma has prided itself in creating music that represents us as a group. We pride ourselves in uniting people through thrash! Banging our heads all throughout Southern California and Arizona, we have played in venues such as the House of Blues, Whisky a Go-Go,  Blooze Bar, Malone’s,  and more! Although we are based in Los Angeles, we have traveled vast distances to enjoy bonding with others in the metal and music community.

Bio:
Throughout my whole life, I have always wanted to be involved in music. Starting with the clarinet, I realized how much enjoyment I received from participating in an ensemble. That feeling continued until I realized that the clarinet did not completely fit what I wanted to do. I wanted to pursue something that reflected me. Picking up the guitar, I realized that it truly represented me as a person and a musician. 

My list of influences include groups such as Metallica, Motorhead,  Slayer, Exodus, Testament,  Death Angel, The Outlaw Mariachi, Lost Society,  and more! All of these groups have played a significant role in the way I perform on stage. 

I have grown so much as a musician and continue to strive for my very best. Today,  I perform in both Anathemma and Hirax. As a member of both bands, I have learned what it truly means to be a team player. Traveling around the world, I continue to pursue my passion in thrash metal.

Bio:
I began my journey into the world of music by listening to my parent’s favorite genre choices. In my case, my father would play cumbias, 90’s techno, and most importantly Spanish rock! He often listened to Heroes Del Silencio, Liran Roll, El Haragan y Cia. During my youth, two of my step cousins, Jesus and Cesar, introduced me to Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills,” which threw me into an obsession with the band! I wanted to learn guitar at that moment, but it turned out difficult for me with no one to teach me and not having the correct gear for metal music. From there, I kept listening to power metal throughout high school!

My father has been playing the bass guitar since I was in middle school.  Naturally, I chose to try it! My father was involved in a church group, so I learned their songs very quickly as they were simple, and I understood note changes and timing decently for a beginner. Now, the real fun began when I tried learning Iron Maiden songs, and boy was that even more exciting!!! I first tried, “Run to the Hills” and quickly learned the intro, but came to a halt with the rest of the song as it involves the galloping technique. I jumped over to “Phantom of the Opera” and found that song was better suited for me to learn!

I heavily dedicated myself to practicing every day with a break on the weekends as my fingers would be strained.  Sure enough I was playing, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Run to the Hills”, “The Trooper”, “Killers”, the whole first Maiden album along with some of the Killers album after three months! I was on a roll!! I picked up Steve Harris’ style of playing naturally. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have learned to play the Bass guitar the same way! After learning quickly, I started jamming with Allan. He then taught me Metallica on bass!! Although that was short lived and parted ways for about 4 years, we got in touch again thanks to his Grandma (May She Rest In Peace).  I saw her by the neighborhood store and said hi, also asking if Allan and his family were okay! Thanks to that moment, we reconnected as friends, and I pushed Allan the idea of starting a band! And now, thanks to that moment in time, we have Anathemma!!

Juan Ibarra

My name is Juan Ibarra and I am super stoked to be part of Anathemma! My music journey started pretty early in life. Coming from a big family, I have always been surrounded by different genres of music. Starting with my parents and uncles always listening to all the Spanish rock bands and classic rock from the 70s and 80s. Listening to all that music at a young age definitely molded the foundation of musicianship that was yet to come, but it wasn’t until my early teen years when I started to really find my own path in music. And it started with one band. IRON MAIDEN!!!!!!! Maiden absolutely changed everything that I knew about music and opened up so many doors to all the genres that I play today. Because of them, I picked up the guitar at 12 years old, and have not put it down since, 18 years later.

As a Guitarist, I always strive to be the best player I can be in any project and always try to create and play amazing solos and riffs!!! I enjoy playing all genres of music! Thrash metal, classic rock, death metal, blues and jazz and more! I am very excited to be thrashing with the Anathemma boys and hope to see everyone have some friendly violent fun in the pit!!!!   

Jacob Stockl

I grew up in a musician household, getting my first taste of music from watching my father’s gigs. I was always drawn to drums and rhythm. Even with my dad pushing me to play guitar, I wanted to play the drums! I began drumming at 3, then continuing with lessons at 5. Throughout my early drumming, I was obsessed with bands like Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold. My parents used to have to put heating pads on my legs because I would play so much that I would be in pain! As I grew older, I played in my first band at 8. After that, I was hooked on playing live and making a career out of music! When I got to high school, I immediately joined the drumline and quickly worked my way up to playing drums in the marching band. I went on to gig with various bands around Los Angeles making a name for myself within the scene. Until one show where I met Anathemma. They blew me away, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it!

My list of influences include Death, Animals as Leaders, Cynic, Meshuggah and Havok. I strive for absolute precision in my playing with perfection when it comes to rhythms, creativity and tempo. I am super excited to be a part of Anathemma and can’t wait for everything it holds!
